Canon PowerShot SX200 Features

Sunday, April 26, 2009

Canon’s PowerShot SX200 IS a pocket-sized, practical, packed with features and promises much in terms of performance.

The Canon’s PowerShot SX200 has one or two interesting design features. It has an aluminium and plastic body which curves inwards on the right-hand side for better grip. On top is a pop-up flash, small power button, large mode dial, shutter button and zoom rocker switch.

Multi-controller has functions such as flash mode, macro and self timer button. Surrounding the multi-controller is a control dial, which is used for various settings – more on this later. At the bottom are Display and Menu buttons.

On the right is home to a rather tacky plastic cover hiding mini USB and mini HDMI ports. At the bottom, is a flap covering the lithium-ion battery compartment and memory card slot – the SX200 uses SD/SDHC cards, plus several types of MMCs.

The Canon measures 103 x 61 x 38mm and weighs 250g with battery and card. The Canon’s PowerShot SX200 is certainly much more compact than a DSLR.

Reading others Mind

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

Bloorview scientists demonstrate the ability to decode a person’s preference for one of two drinks with 80 per cent accuracy by measuring the intensity of near infrared light absorbed in brain tissue.

Canada’s largest children’s rehabilitation hospital have developed a new technique that uses infrared light brain imaging to decode preference with the goal of ultimately opening the world of choice to children who can’t speak or move.

“This is the first system that decodes preference naturally from spontaneous thoughts,”

After teaching the computer to recognize the unique pattern of brain activity associated with preference for each subject, the researchers accurately predicted which drink the participants liked best 80 per cent of the time.

Most brain-computer interfaces designed to read thoughts require training.

Wearing a headband fitted with fibre-optics that emit light into the pre-frontal cortex of the brain, they were shown two drinks on a computer monitor, one after the other, and asked to make a mental decision about which they liked more. “When your brain is active, the oxygen in your blood increases and depending on the concentration, it absorbs more or less light.”

Luu says. The brain is too complex to ever allow decoding of a person’s random thoughts. “However, if we limit the context limit the question and available answers, as we have with predicting preference – then mind reading becomes possible.“

Luu says. “In some people, their brains are more active when they don’t like something, and in some people they’re more active when they do like something.”

Secrets to Census of Marine Life in Arctic and Antarctic Ice oceans

Monday, February 16, 2009

In the Ice oceans of the Arctic and Antarctic have revealed a trove of secrets to Census of Marine Life explorers, who were especially surprised to find at least 235 species live in both polar seas despite a distance of more than 13,000-kilometer distance in between. The scientists had found marine life that in Both Arctic And Antarctic poles apparently share in common things include marathoners such as grey whales and birds, but also worms, crustaceans, and angelic snail-like pteropods, the latter discoveries opening a host of future research questions about where they originated and how they wound up at both ends of the Earth.

Among many other findings, the scientists also documented evidence of cold water-loving species shifting towards both poles to escape rising ocean temperatures. Chionodraco hamatus, an Antarctic ice fish, can withstand temperatures that freeze the blood of all other fish types.
These discoveries result in series of landmark.

In the word, love can be explained in thousands of ways, but the only word that comes to my mind is you. I think we dream so we don’t have to be away from one another. If we are in each other’s dreams, we will always be together.

Is Technology strengthen skill in multi-tasking

Thursday, February 5, 2009

How much should schools use new media, versus older techniques such as reading and classroom discussion?

Today technology has played a bigger role in our lives, our skills in critical thinking and analysis have declined, while our visual skills have improved, according to research.

Researched by Patricia Greenfield, UCLA distinguished professor of psychology and director of the Children’s Digital Media Center, Los Angeles.

Greenfield said. “If we want to develop a variety of skills, we need a balanced media diet. Each medium has costs and benefits in terms of what skills each develops.”

Among the studies Greenfield analyzed was a classroom study showing that students who were given access to the Internet during class and were encouraged to use it during lectures did not process what the speaker said as well as students who did not have Internet access. When students were tested after class lectures, those who did not have Internet access performed better than those who did.

More than 85 percent of video games contain violence, one study found, and multiple studies of violent media games have shown that they can produce many negative effects, including aggressive behavior and desensitization to real-life violence, Greenfield said in summarizing the findings.

In another study, Video game skill predicted laparoscopic surgery skills, Greenfield said. “The best video game players made 47 percent fewer errors and performed 39 percent faster in laparoscopic tasks than the worst video game players.”

Visual intelligence has been rising globally for 50 years. Greenfield believes much of this change is related to our increased use of technology, as well as other factors, including increased levels of formal education, improved nutrition, smaller families and increased societal complexity, etc.
